The Play Shelter After School Club provides a safe, supervised and nurturing environment for children aged 4-12 years. Our After School Clubs provide informal learning opportunities and play experiences that promote personal, social and emotional development through stimulating and fun activities. Children have the opportunity to express themselves and play within an environment that places them in the centre of everything we do.

At The Play Shelter, we recognise that every child deserves the best possible start and support in life to fulfill their potential.

A child's experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important as it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow into adolescence and adulthood. When parents choose to use childcare services, they want to know that the provision will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The Play Shelter has designed a curriculum that works to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to provide that assurance.

Our curriculum is consistent throughout the services we provide. The Play Shelter curriculum focuses on play, using informal learning opportunities to expand on children's prior knowledge and facilitate learning.

It is because children explore lives through play and learn who they are, that play becomes a vital tool in assisting their development. The Play Shelter curriculum extends children's development through:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development
