Children are not permitted to leave our premises on their own once on site. Parents are asked to provide a Packed Lunch for their children although Breakfast and a light snack are provided for children at parents’ request.

Packed Lunch
We ask parents to provide a suitable packed lunch and support us in promoting a healthy balanced diet; therefore we try to discourage children bringing fizzy drinks in their lunches or an unnecessary amount of chocolate bars and sweets. Although we have facilities to heat cooked food some parents may provide, we will not heat or prepare microwave dinners.

Breakfast   -   During holiday play schemes, the morning breakfast club is provided for children where time is of the essence for parents in the mornings. The breakfast consists of cereals, toast, juice/hot chocolate/tea and fruits so as to provide a nutritious breakfast and promote a healthy balanced diet. Breakfast runs from 8.00 a.m – 9.30 a.m. every morning during the holiday schemes.

Light snack
Tuck snacks are given to children in the afternoon to bridge the gap between lunch time and when children are collected. Our tuck snacks also promote a healthy diet as we offer fruit, vegetables, French bread, Pitta bread or crackers with various fillings and toppings. Tuck runs from 3.30 p.m. – 4.00 p.m.

Pick up and return service
is available from designated pick up points. Pick up times are 7.45 am and 8.30 am, return times are 5.30 pm and 6.00 pm back to the designated points. We have qualified mini bus drivers and our mini buses have fitted seat belts for children’s safety. Parents have the option of choosing one way travel – (either pick up or return only) or both the pick up and return. The pick up and return service is not only a safe and reliable way for children to attend the scheme, enabling parents to scurry off to work, but is also a great social atmosphere for children to make new friends whilst on their way to the scheme. for more information.

Ofsted Registered
The Play Shelter is an Ofsted Registered provision which means our organisation has been thoroughly vetted by the local authority to ensure that:

  • We provide safe child-adult ratios,
  • We employ suitably qualified staff and managers
  • Our staff, managers and volunteers have undergone police check clearance from the Criminal records bureau.
  • The premises are safe, secure and suitably equipped/resourced to provide care for children
  • Rigorous record keeping and monitoring systems are in place
  • Policies and procedures comply with government and local authority standards.

Sending your child to an Ofsted registered scheme not only gives you peace of mind knowing that your childs being looked after in a safe and secure environment, but also allows parents to claim back childcare costs if they are in receipt of Child Tax Credits
